Codebase maps / supabase/supabase

The Supabase codebase, as a map.

The supabase/supabase repository holds the Supabase dashboard (Studio), the website and docs, the shared UI packages, and the Docker setup for running Supabase yourself. Here is what each part does - and the whole repository as a map you can open and explore.

How Supabase is organized

Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built from open source tools. These are the parts of its repository, and what each one does.

apps/studio

Supabase Studio: the dashboard for managing a Supabase project - both self-hosted and on the hosted platform. Built with Next.js and Tailwind.

apps/docs

The docs at supabase.com/docs: guides and reference, built with Next.js.

apps/www

supabase.com, the main website.

packages/ui

The shared React component library used across all Supabase apps, built on Radix UI and shadcn/ui and styled with Tailwind CSS.

packages/ui-patterns

Bigger components made from the ui package or from other libraries, kept apart so only the apps that use them include them.

packages/pg-meta

SQL builders that read a Postgres database's structure - tables, columns, constraints, indexes, relationships - shared by Studio and postgres-meta.

docker/

The official Docker Compose setup for self-hosted Supabase: the whole stack of Supabase services, on your own machine or servers.

examples/

Example apps by topic: auth, database, storage, realtime, edge functions, AI, and full apps like a to-do list and a Slack clone.

Where to start reading

Open these in the live map - click a file to read it beside the map, and point at it to see what it imports.

  1. apps/studio/pages/_app.tsx - the Next.js wrapper around Studio's pages
  2. apps/studio/data/fetchers.ts - where Studio's calls to the Supabase platform API go through
  3. packages/pg-meta/src/sql/tables.ts - the query that reads a database's tables
  4. packages/ui/index.tsx - every component the shared ui package exports

Good to know

Is the database in this repository?

No. Supabase is a combination of open source tools - Postgres, Realtime, PostgREST, GoTrue (auth), Storage and others - and most of them live in their own repositories. This one holds the dashboard, the websites, the shared packages and the self-hosting setup.

Is the map up to date?

The live map reads the repository when you open it, so it always shows the current code. The picture on this page was made on October 29, 2026.

Can I map my own project like this?

Yes. Paste any public GitHub link, or open a folder on your computer - your own code never leaves your device.
